Sex Offender Registry

Megan's Law is named after Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl who was raped and killed at age seven by a known child molester who had moved across the street from the Kanka family without their knowledge. In the wake of the tragedy, the Kankas sought to have local communities warned about sex offenders in the area and on May 17, 1996, President Clinton signed Megan's Law.

Megan's Law has two components - sex offender registration and community notification.

The information provided on this website is public record and is provided pursuant to 16-22-110 and 16-22-112 C.R.S. It is made available for the purpose of protecting the public.

The general assembly declares, however, that, in making this information available to the public, as provided in this section 16-22-112 C.R.S., and in section 16-22-110(6), it is not the general assembly’s intent that the information be used to inflict retribution or additional punishment on any person convicted of unlawful sexual behavior or of another offense, the underlying factual basis of which involves unlawful sexual behavior.

Sex Offenders on this registry include those persons living in San Juan County and the Town of Silverton, on a full time or part time basis who are required by law to register.

This registry will include sex offenders convicted of State of Colorado charges since July 1, 1991 and sex offenders from other states that are required to register. It will include adult sex offenders that have been convicted of a felony and sex offenders with two or more misdemeanor convictions. It will not include those with only one misdemeanor conviction.

Juvenile sex offender information will only be posted if the juvenile has been adjudicated for two or more offenses involving unlawful sexual behavior or a crime of violence as defined in section 18-1.3-406 C.R.S., or was required to register pursuant to section 16-22-103 C.R.S. because he or she was adjudicated for an offense that would have been a felony if committed by an adult and failed to register as required by section 16-2-108 C.R.S.

The Colorado sex offender registry includes only those persons who have been required by law to register and who are in compliance with the sex offender registration laws. Persons should not rely solely on the sex offender registry as a safeguard against perpetrators of sexual assault in their communities. The crime for which a person is convicted may not accurately reflect the level of risk.

Criminal History: 10/20/1988 Lewd and Lascivious acts with a child under 14-Felony. Convicted-sentenced to California Dept of Corrections. Arresting agency Stockton, CA (PD?). Registration required from the State of California.
